PHLEBOTOMY COURSES

Option #1 for Certification:

National Healthcareers Association (NHA) certification pathway includes the following:

​

56-hour course (7weeks of content), a minimum of 30 in-house venipuncture sticks, and the National Healthcareers Association (NHA) exam.  

​

Requirements:

     1.  High School Diploma or GED required 

     2.  Photo ID and Social Security Card

     3.  At least 18 years of age

 

The course fee is $1175 and includes the following:
     1.  ATI Practice Test Fees $65
     2.  NHA Testing Fees $115

     3.  Administrative course fee 

​

Additional fees that are not included:

     1.  Black scrubs with non-slip tennis shoes

     2.  REQUIRED ~ Textbook approximately $85 (Phlebotomy Worktext, 4th ed.)

     3.  Hepatitis B vaccine initiated or signed waiver

​

*Participation in Family and Friend days is required to reach NHA exam requirements for 30 successful venipuncture sticks.

Option#2 for Certification (Competitive Externship):

Phlebotomy Course PLUS Clinical Externship for ASCP Certification

​

American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification includes the following:

​

56-hour course (7 weeks of content), a minimum of 30 in-house venipuncture sticks, a 100-hr clinical externship at a local hospital, and the ASCP Board of Certification exam

​

Requirements:

     1.  High School Diploma or GED required 

     2.  Photo ID and Social Security Card

     3.  At least 18 years of age

     4.  Successful completion of a DHTC phlebotomy class

​

The course fee is $1175 (plus $335 clinical externship fee) and includes the following:
     1.  ASCP Testing Fees 

     2.  Urine Drug Screen

     3.  Background check

     4.  Administrative fees

​

*Please note: We will only pay for one National exam per student.   If we have already paid for your NHA exam, your Clinical Externship Fee (if selected) will be a total of $450 to cover the cost for your second national exam. 

​

Additional fees that are NOT included (Estimated costs $500):

     1.  Black scrubs with non-slip shoes

     2.  REQUIRED ~ Textbook approximately $85 (Phlebotomy Worktext 4th ed.)

     3.  Required Immunizations: MMR, Tdap/DTap, Varicella Zoster, Hep B, TB test, flu shot (REQUIRED FOR CLINICAL EXTERNSHIP)

Clinical Externship and Application Process:

​

Externship placements are competitive and not guaranteed! Externships will be opened to all qualified students/applicants who meet the following qualifications:

​

1.    Positive Instructor recommendation

2.    Positive Performance Evaluation confirming exceptional phlebotomy skills

3.    Grades of a “B-“ or higher in class will be given priority, with grades of a “C” or “C-“ to be considered if there is space is available and all other qualifications are exceptional

4.    Pass Background Screenings and drug testing

5.    No outstanding class tuition balance

6.    Applications are due by Exam 3 for your scheduled class and must be submitted by the deadline

7.    Acceptance/rejection will be confirmed the last day of your scheduled class

8.    If not accepted into the externship students will finish with a NHA (option #1) certification

Other Details:  The $335 fee (or $450 if we already paid for your NHA exam) which is NOT included in the tuition for the class, is due when the externship date is released to the student. Please note, this will be AFTER completion of the course and can take up to 6 months for placement.  Also, externship experiences are typically between 3am and 7pm, Mon-Friday, an average of 4-5 days a week.  Your final schedule is determined by the clinical facility not individual preference.
